This is a suite of 4 accredited tests which measure moisture, colour, conductivity, and Brix (sugar content) in honey. Among other things, these tests are useful for characterising honeys from different origins honeydew, and other floral sources.
The 4 components of the Colour, Conductivity, Brix & Moisture suite can be run individually. Below are examples of how colour and moisture are used:
- Colour Only– is often used for characterising honeys from different floral sources.
- Moisture Only – honey with a moisture content that is above 18% is at an increased risk of fermentation. You may wish to have a yeast test performed on high moisture honey to investigate this risk further. High moisture levels are often found in uncapped honey.
How does Analytica conduct the test
Samples are heated to dissolve sugar crystals and then thoroughly mixed before analysis. The sample is clarified and colour is measured using a spectrophotometer. Moisture and Brix are measured using a refractometer. Conductivity is tested using a conductivity meter.
Accreditations
Colour, Conductivity, Brix & Moisture are all IANZ accredited tests.
